SCOTT GREIDER | ARCHITECTURE

oui house 2, fort wayne

Speculative study of in-fill housing for a typical center city lot. It’s common when building in or around old neighborhoods to imitate old architectural styles, even if the result is decidedly less impressive than the original. Instead, this prototype is designed to match the mass, shape, scale, siting, and orientation of the vernacular, while using modern materials, construction techniques, and abstractions to bridge the gap between old and new.

Green features include south-facing glazing and sun-shades for passive solar, wrap-around porch to help shade main living spaces from sun, roof configuration for future active solar system, minimal number of of north-facing windows, vertical loop geothermal radiant heating, LED lighting, water conserving fixtures, rain water collection system, native landscaping, and pervious surfaces.
